Pupil Premium

The pupil premium is additional funding provided to the school, over and above that provided for other children, to support the achievement and inclusion of children in receipt of free school meals.  Additional funding is also provided for children who are in the care of the Local Authority.  This money is allocated to initiatives to ensure pupils reach their full potential, both academically and socially.

The aim of the Pupil Premium Grant is to raise the achievement and attainment of the pupil premium group and narrow the gap between pupils who have been eligible for free school meal in the last 6 years (Ever6) and non-free school meal pupils (NFSM).

Applications for Free school Meals are made through Knowsley Council. Even if you do not wish them to have the meals, this would mean the school could still claim Pupil Premium Funding that will be used to help your child.

All children in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 receive ‘Universal Free School Meals’ but we recommend that you still apply if you are eligible as you will receive free half term holiday clubs and meal vouchers when the children are on holiday.

Pupil Premium at Our Lady’s Catholic Primary School

At Our Lady’s
Catholic Primary School all members of staff and governors accept
responsibility for all pupils recognising that a number of pupils within the
school population, some of whom are not eligible for pupil premium funding, may
at any point during their school career require additional support and
intervention. We are committed to meeting our pupils’ pastoral, social and
academic needs in a nurturing environment. As with every child in our care, a
child who is in receipt of the pupil premium is valued, respected and entitled
to develop to their full potential.

Identified barriers to educational achievement

At Our Lady’s we have identified the following as barriers for some of the pupils currently in receipt of Pupil Premium:

  • Attendance
  • Outcomes
  • Speech and Language barriers
  • SEND cognition and learning difficulties
How will the school measure the impact of the Pupil Premium?

To monitor progress and attainment, our performance tables capture the achievement of pupils covered by the Pupil Premium. At Our Lady’s, the usual cycle of data will be used to measure pupil progress and enable the early identification of further need, support and/or appropriate intervention. Pupil Progress meetings take place termly and include Senior Leaders, Class Teachers and Support Staff.

Alongside the Governing Body, Senior Leaders will review the impact of actions taken and plan for how the funding will be specifically allocated over the next phase. When selecting pupils for Pupil Premium target groups, the school will look at all pupils across the school.

NB: There are some pupils who are not eligible for Pupil Premium but are included as they may benefit from accessing additional support.
