Parish Links
Our school is blessed to serve two parishes within the Archdiocese of Liverpool: Our Lady Immaculate and St Joseph Catholic Church, in the heart of Prescot, and Our Lady Help of Christians in Portico. Both parishes are dedicated to giving praise and worship to God, celebrating the Sacraments, and proclaiming the Gospel to all. Our parishes also play a vital role in preparing children for Reconciliation and the Sacrament of Holy Communion, journeying with families to help pupils grow in faith and take part more fully in the sacramental life of the Church.
We are proud of our strong and active links with our parish communities. Our children enjoy regular visits to church throughout the year, taking part in Masses and celebrations that strengthen their faith and sense of belonging. On the first Thursday of every month, Father Dominic, our School Chaplain and Parish Priest of Our Lady’s and St Joseph’s, visits school to celebrate Mass with pupils, staff, and parishioners. These occasions are a valued opportunity for us to come together in prayer and worship as one faith family.
During Lent, our pupils lead the Stations of the Cross in church, prayerfully guiding the parish community through Jesus’ final journey. In Advent, we hold a special service in church for the local community, supported by the Salvation Army Band, preparing together in hope and joy for the coming of Christ.
As part of their RE curriculum, classes also visit church to deepen their learning and understanding of Catholic life and traditions. Father Dominic often supports this by bringing special items from church into school, helping children to engage more closely with the symbols and practices of their faith.
Community Links
Our school has strong community links that support our Catholic mission and enrich the life of our pupils.
Our pupils are actively involved in choosing charities close to their hearts for the school to support. For example, we have raised money for the Scoliosis Society, as well as for mental health charities, animal charities, and causes within our local community where we have personal connections. This ensures that our charitable work is meaningful, personal, and rooted in compassion.
We work closely with the Society of St. Vincent de Paul, who have generously donated books for our library and offered financial support for families in need. Through our Mini Vinnies group, pupils are encouraged to put their faith into action by serving others with kindness and compassion.
We also have close ties with De La Salle Catholic High School. Their chaplain leads a transition programme with our Year 6 pupils, helping them to prepare for the next stage of their school journey. Older pupils regularly join us for work experience, and we are welcomed to De La Salle for special events, strengthening the bonds between our school communities.
In addition, we link with our local CAFOD team to support fundraising and learn more about Catholic Social Teaching. Through fundraising challenges, themed activities, and classroom learning, pupils are encouraged to understand global issues and to live out their call to be Pilgrims of Hope, making a real difference in building a fairer world.
We are supported by our School Nurse, who plays an important role in helping to deliver our RSE programme, ensuring children learn how to grow, develop, and stay healthy. Reflecting upon our mission to reach out to all, our pupils also support the local foodbank, providing donations to help families in need within our local community.
We are immensly proud to be the first Mary’s Meals Ambassador School in the North West region. Pupils take part in fundraising activities such as our annual Porridge Party and Raise Some Dough campaigns, helping to provide meals for children around the world. Our commitment has been shared on BBC Radio Merseyside during our Porridge Party, giving us the chance to spread the message of Mary’s Meals more widely.
Our pupils and families take part in clothes recycling within the local community, helping to protect the environment while raising valuable funds to support our school and partner charities. We also work with Prescot Town Council on uniform recycling, ensuring good quality uniform items are shared and reused to support families. We are especially grateful to Devlin’s, our local butcher, who kindly provides Christmas dinner vouchers for some of our neediest families, ensuring everyone can share in the joy and warmth of the festive season.
We are also blessed by the support of the wider community, who join us in many of our events. Our school choir sings at local venues such as Tesco, and families and friends regularly support our fundraising concerts, fairs, and community events, strengthening the sense of unity between school, parish, and local community.
